Time for my Trunk Club Review #4! This time I have my husband joining me to show off some menswear he received in his trunk. I’ve also included some other Nordstrom goodies I recently tried on so this post is a a real doozy. Let’s grab a cup of coffee (or tea!) and dive in!
If you haven’t heard of Trunk Club, it is an online styling service. You head to Trunkclub’s website, fill out some information about your clothing preferences, sizing, and style and you’re set up with a stylist. After you set up your profile, you can request a “trunk.” You’ll fill out a form asking you what you’d like to receive and your stylist will send you an email (or a message in their app-this is what I use and it is so nice to be able to communicate with your stylist this way) with what they’ve picked for you. You’re charged a $25 styling fee that is credited towards what you purchase (the fee is waived if you have a Nordstrom Card). What is really cool, is that you can “reject” certain items or skip the trunk altogether. I also like that if an item goes on sale on Nordstrom’s site, you will see this reflected when you go to check out. If you don’t, you can always shoot them an email so you get the sale price (I’ve done that before and it’s easy peasy).
When I’m using a service like this, I try to be really specific as I’m usually trying to fill some sort of hole in my wardrobe. I also like to create a Pinterest board with the sort of thing I would like to receive or that represents my personal style. Olive Cowl Neck and Medium Wash Jeans
This is super soft and I asked for an olive sweater like this, but the giant side slit is so bizarre. You could wear a cami with it, but the chances of that for me=0. These jeans were really soft and stretchy, but I was worried they wouldn’t hold their shape. They’re actually on sale right now so I’m still on the fence about them. I’ve been holding out for another size for a favorite pair from my Trunk Club #3, so I may just have to order those before my next Trunk.
Gray Sweater & Medium Wash Jeans
This sweater is definitely my style, it’s super soft, I like the color, and it is a great price for the quality. Unfortunately, it wasn’t super flattering, so back it went. See above for comments about the jeans. The sneakers were a definite no for me too. They felt VERY young to me and they were not comfortable.
Striped Shirt & Medium Wash Jeans
Since I avoid horizontal stripes at all costs, I knew this was a no off the bat, but it is super comfy and very soft, I only wish it came in a solid. If you like stripes, this is a real winner and would be a great basic for Fall. See above for comments about the jeans. The sneakers were comfy, but I was on the fence. They felt a little “mature” to me so I ultimately sent them back.
Yellow Rain Coat
Ask and you shall receive…I actually asked for a yellow raincoat because I thought a colored rain coat would be fun and would be more visible, but HOLY BANANA! Yikes-this obviously went back. You win some you lose some…. That said it is packable and comes in other color so it could be a good option.
Excuse the blinking, I have a problem and this was the best pic I got of this sweater. I loved this sweater and it is a great basic, but it was too pricey for me right now, so sadly, I had to say goodbye. Fingers crossed it goes on sale. See comments above regarding the jeans.
Plaid Button Down & Vest
This plaid button down is super soft and a great color, but I already have something similar. I’d highly recommend it as it would be so versatile. The distressed skinny jeans are pretty cute and very reasonably priced, but not as comfy as some other jeans I own. The shoes actually don’t look bad in these photos, but in person they just weren’t my cup of tea.
Here I have the same look styled with the skinny jeans from earlier in the post and this vest. This vest was hard to part with, but ultimately, I thought this color wouldn’t work that well in my wardrobe as I don’t have much in the purple family. It would be great for Fall and Winter, and it was super soft and flattering, so if you’re looking for a new vest, this would be a good pick.
White Slip On Sneakers
Here they are in all their glory. Again, I think they photograph better than they look in person and they were killing my toes-I actually have pretty narrow feet so this was surprising, but maybe if you sized up you wouldn’t have this problem.
Black Quilted Sneakers
These are on sale now and I’m tempted. They are a great basic sneaker and wouldn’t get scuffed up easily and they were comfy…hmmm.
I got the Spanx catalog in the mail a few weeks ago and was dying to try these. They are pretty comfy, but I think I’d size down because I thought they were baggy in the knee. They feel like real jeans too which is nice, but like most jeggings, there are no front pockets, if that’s a deal breaker for you. I really love the hemline.
Spanx Camo Leggings
These were another pick from the Spanx catalog (I ordered through Nordstrom though because, duh, free shipping and returns). They’re actually super comfy and I think they’re pretty flattering, but I have NO IDEA where I would wear these so back they went…but not before I pranced around the house pretending I was a ninja 🙂 .
Men’s Trunk Club
Ok, my husband has been on my case to post these forever and I am finally getting around to it. He is convinced this will go viral 🙂 . I don’t know about that, but I thought it would be helpful if you’re looking for some picks for your guy. Oddly, I think the menswear is often less expensive, bar a few items (so frustrating especially since it is usually more fabric for men…oh well!)
Green polo & Gray slacks
Somebody was quite impressed with his modeling (you should have seen some of the picks I didn’t include!!). This outfit was a winner though over here. I love the color of that polo and my husband really didn’t have any slacks expect those from our wedding (not lying!) these were all keepers. I LOVE those shoes especially. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the polo in that color, but found it in a similar color to link to.
Gingham Button Down & Dark Wash Jeans
This button down was another keeper and we have a wedding this weekend that my husband will wear this to. The jeans were comfy he said, but he has similar jeans, so back these went.
Purple Polo & Gray Slacks
I think it is safe to say that my husband doesn’t need this purple polo in his life. This was sent back, but it does come in other colors and it is a good basic polo.
Maybe stripes hurt me in a past life, but this was a big no from me. Just not flattering and sort of dizzying.
Gray Polo & Slacks
This polo was meh at best, especially compared to the previous shirts, so back it went.
Black Button Down
This shirt is wrinkle resistant, but as a result it is pretty thick and a little stiff and my husband just didn’t like the feel. If you had a job where you needed a tougher shirt, I think this would be a good pick though.
Whoa! I’m exhausted from this post. Kudos to you if you made it through. Go reward yourself with some of that Halloween candy you bought way too early!
